Symptoms of Swine Flu
Symptoms
Swine flu symptoms are similar to those of ordinary seasonal flu. These symptoms include:
- Coughing
- Sore throat
- Fever
- Body aches
- Chills
- Fatigue
There also seems (from evidence gathered from early testimonies) that there is more incidence of diarrhoea related to swine flu than the normal seasonal flu.
Except from the chills these symptoms appear similar to those experienced during a severe cold. But they must not be confused.
If you have just arrived from Mexico or have come in contact with someone newly arrived from the country and you are showing some of the symptoms above you must take extra care not to spread whatever you may have.
Take precautionary measures. Stay at home, keep all close contact to a minimum and most importantly avoid large gatherings. Phone you local medical centre for more advice on how to get diagnosed and get treated.
The types of people that are vulnerable to swine flu
Some people who are undergoing intensive medical treatment may be suffering from slightly weaker immune systems. These people are more susceptible to the worse effects of swine flu. Those who are especially vulnerable are those undergoing chemotherapy and those taking medication that could impair the proper functioning of the immune system.
Young children and the elderly are also more vulnerable and special care should be taken to protect them from contracting the disease. Treatment should be sought immediately if any of these vulnerable groups catch the disease.
